Godīs owen nation???

The most powerful nation on earth its not the biggest - The US with its 9,800,000 sq km (3,830,000 sq miles) it is just the 3rd biggest nation (behind Russia and Canada).

But to restore the proud to be an US-Citizen - they can claim for:

  • North Americas highest mountain (Mt. McKinley, Alaska)

  • the worlds biggest reservoir (New Carolina Tailings)

  • the deepest Canyon (Grand Canyon)

  • the tallest Geyser (Service Steamboat, Yellowstone NP)

  • the second tallest Building ( Sears-Tower, Chicago)

  • and the old Route 66.

Its really a great nation of 50 states and the "District of Colombia" with Washington as its capital. And, who doesn't know the US-Dollar (US$) = 100 Cents???

That's the US ????? Even California is f..... could when you arrive here from Australia in March. And L.A. isn't that interesting. Its just a county of about 80 separate towns and villages. Such as Santa Monica, Venice, Hollywood, even West Hollywood is a town of his own, and Los Angeles (the City of Angels). But why are Cities of Angels always dirty?  But you have to walk on the Sunset or Hollywood Boulevard, through Beverly Hills (how poor am I). Make sure that you can visit the La Brea Tar Pits. And about 20 miles from L.A., you will find Anaheim (or should I say Disneyland). But the US have MUCH better places then this big city.

The best place I've found is about 5,000 feet deep and you have to go to Arizona. The Grand Canyon can show how small mankind can be on the matter of history and the strength of mother nature. And if you hike or ride down to the Colorado River, touch the rock there - do you feel the history? The stone you touch there is about 2,000,000,000 (2 billion) years old. At this time, there wasn't even Dinosaurs on earth. And this stones form the very basement of the North American continent. But, as geologists may say, the Canyon is a young feature. Carved in the past 5 million years or so. - And now lets talk about our time and "What's the time, sir??". The best place to enjoy the Canyon is from the South Rim. And you get there by train via Flagstaff and then by bus to the Rim. Even animal life is rich around the Canyon. Mostly birds with ca. 250 species, followed by mammals (70), reptiles (25) and amphibians with 5 species. You have to stay at least two days, better a week.

San Francisco was my next destination. Go to Castro St., the pier 29 with all the seals living there, the Aquarium, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. And without taking a plane, you will find yourself in Asia if you go shopping or hiking in Americas largest Asian village outside  Asia - the San Francisco Chinatown. You will even see Chinese schools and banks. And after you rode the famous Cable Car, visit the Cable Car Powerhouse Museum. Every Cable starts and ends here. And you will learn how the Cable Car works. And San Fran hosts Americas highest Pyramid, the Trans America Pyramid.

I left California northbound by AMTRAK all across Oregon and Washington to Seattle. The famous home of the Boeing Airplane Company and the Microsoft Empire. But though there are such great companies, Seattle its a sweet and lovely town. And very relaxed too. An other place I would like to live. You can also find the gravesite of Bruce and Brandon Lee. You can get a great view from the Spaceneedle, Seattle's most remarkable landmark. Walk along the pier and sit down at Public Market for a snack - you find good food at reasonable prices and friendly stuff at the Sound View Cafe. The best Air museum is located at the Boeing Field. It was here, in this Red Barn, were Boeing started to build the best planes on earth. The 727 Air Force One of President John F. Kennedy found its final destination here. But to see the main facility, you have to take a tour to Everett Boeing Field. But film and photography are prohibited here.

I have to name one bad thing about Seattle only. And that's the Weather. It can be very rainy.

I left the US to go to Canada. And reentered the US near Buffalo on the Niagara Falls. Only to end the World Tour in NYC - New York City. Sorry to all the people who love this City, but I didn't found it that exciting. I did enjoy the tour of the UN and the view from the Empire State Building, the Art of the Modern Art Museum. But its still a very loud, dirty and messy city. And there is few sunshine and light on the streets because of all this skyscrapers. I wanted to see the Independence Day Parade once - but I couldn't stay in THIS city that long. I probably come back for a day or two to see it though. I left NYC a week before I planned.

And it took about one Year to come back to the US and see its great capital.

The best thing about DC is - at least for tourists - that most Museums and all Monuments can be visited for free. Lets start on the Mall. And there, on top of the Washington Monument. Its just re-opened on August, 1, 2000 after a 3-year renovation marathon. Its the crossing point of Capitol - Lincoln Memorial, and White House - Jefferson Memorial. And the highest point of Washington, DC too. Martin Luther King, jr. was holding his famous "I HAVE A DREAM" speech from the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial. Every important building of this country, such as the most departments, are all located around the Mall. On the south of the Mall, on Independence Ave., you will find the National Air And Space Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, the Holocaust Museum, and the Korean War Memorial.

Arlington House on the Arlington National Cemetery has another good view all over DC to offer. But also a very tense atmosphere. There are 245,000 servicemen and their family members buried. President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert laid to rest here. As are the victims of the Space Shuttle Challenger and WW II veteran and boxer Joe Louis too, beside thousands of known and unknown.

You also will walk along Pennsylvania Ave. with its famous # 1600, the address of the President of the United States. Better know as "The White House". And Massachusetts Ave., were you find most embassies and beauty architecture. If you look mostly for architecture - Washington, DC is one of the best places for you. Its a very powerful kind of architecture all over the city.

The World Bank and IMF, the J. Edgar Hoover Building (FBI Headquarter), the Watergate Hotel, Supreme Court, and the National Museum of American Art could be other places for you to visit.

Last but not the least - the 17th St., Dupont Circle aren't only for Gay travelers. There are lots of very interesting bars and live goes on there every time you go there.
